Dear Parents/Guardians,

For social studies, your child will be creating a Salt Map of New York State in class.  Before your child can begin their project, please help them make the dough at home by mixing the following:

1 cup of salt
1/2 cup of flour
water (just enough to make a heavy paste) - Please make sure that your dough is not runny!

The dough is due this Friday, November 3rd.  Please have your child bring it in a zip log bag with his/her name on the bag.  Please email me if you are able to make more than 1 package of dough to share with others that may be unable to make this at home.
.

In class, your child will spread the dough in the shape of NY, add mountains, rivers and the Erie Canal. With toothpicks they will label the major cities. Finally, with watercolor paints they will paint their salt map.    Your child will also need a cardboard flat box to put his/her relief map on.  The best box size to use would be a flat box that holds a case of soda or if you flatten 2 cereal boxes and duct tape them together that would also work out well.  Please let me know if you are unable to send in the salt dough by this Wednesday, November 1st.
Thanks for your time and support with this hands on SS project.
                                                                                                            Sincerely,
                                                                                                            Mrs. A. Young

Not only 1 but 2 story telling visitors this week:

Mrs. Wolf, Aydien's mom and Mr. Iveson.

Aydien's mom reading books, The Mitten and The Mitten Tree to our class.

Mrs. Wolf showing our class how she crochets hats and mittens for people that need                         them.  Thankfully we have 2 pairs donated to our class for students to borrow on fun,                       cold  days outside in the winter.

Mr. Iveson, retired Hilton teacher, visits with a historical fiction story.

What a week this was, not only was it Red Ribbon Week but we had 2 story telling visitors and a Skype Session with famous author, Debra Frasier.
She is the author and illustrator of the amazing book:
Miss. Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster which is the inspiration for our upcoming vocabulary parade on Tuesday, October 31st.
We were able to share many wonderful learning experiences together this week.
